About Us

Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Everyday Living

Maati and Metal was born from a simple belief: the tools we eat and drink from matter. Not just for our health, but for the earth, for our traditions, and for the slow, intentional lives we are trying to build.

We are a conscious kitchen brand rooted in the Ayurvedic wisdom of India — the understanding that copper (tamra) and bronze (kansa) are not just metals, they are healers. For thousands of years, Indian households stored water in copper vessels and ate from kansa thalis. This was not ritual for ritual's sake — it was science, passed down through generations.

Our Story

We started Maati and Metal because we were looking for something that most modern kitchenware couldn't offer: honesty. Honest materials. Honest craftsmanship. Products made with intention, not just efficiency.

Every piece in our collection is handcrafted by skilled artisans who have inherited their craft across generations. The gentle hammer marks on our copper bottles, the warm glow of a kansa thali — these are not imperfections. They are signatures of human hands.

Why Copper and Kansa?

Copper is naturally antimicrobial. Water stored overnight in a copper vessel becomes infused with its ions, balancing the three doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — according to Ayurvedic tradition. Our copper bottles are crafted from pure, food-grade copper with no lining, so every sip carries the full benefit of this ancient practice.

Kansa, the sacred alloy of copper and tin, has been used in Indian dining for millennia. It is said to sweeten food, aid digestion, and bring a grounding quality to the act of eating. Eating from a kansa thali is not just nourishing — it is a ritual of presence.

Our Promise

Every product is made from pure, unadulterated metal — no coatings, no toxins, no shortcuts. We work directly with artisan communities across India, ensuring fair wages and the preservation of dying crafts. And we design for real life: our pieces are meant to be used daily, not stored in a cabinet.

Maati and Metal is an invitation to slow down. To eat with awareness. To drink with intention. To bring the wisdom of the past into the beauty of the present.

Welcome to the conscious kitchen.
